What happened in the prologue – chapter 5?:
We first meet Vince present day in Iraq, where he’s witnessed his friend get shot and killed. He flashes back to the his choices and what’s led him here, what his fate is.
It all started the night he meets Rose when he’s sixteen years old at a family event out of town. He was dark and dangerous, and his family continuously warns him to behave himself, but she didn’t see him that way. She was sweet and innocent and they were drawn to each other. After that night, they couldn’t stop thinking each other. Even though they lived a few hours apart, they were constantly texting and talking. They’re still just friends, but there’s the potential for more, when Vince’s family says he can move to La Jolla for the summer and work at his family’s restaurant.
In the present day, we meet Rose as she’s about to celebrate getting her AA degree with her family. We learn she’s still depressed over what happened with Vince in the past, but she’s fake-dating her friend Ben in order to fool her family into thinking she’s moved on.
“Faultless was now his first impression of her, and something in his gut and in those sweet eyes of hers told him that wouldn’t be changing.”
Discussion Questions:
- What do you think happened with Vince and Rose?
- Do you think Vince is as dangerous as his family makes him out to be?
- Do you prefer your heroes dark and dangerous or on the sweeter side?
About FATE
When Rose tagged along with her big sister to a baby shower the last thing she expected was to meet a guy. But this wasn’t just any guy. This was the exciting, sexy as sin, way out of her league black sheep of his family–Vincent Moreno. Even more surprising, this heart-stopping bad boy seemed interested in her.
Fate always had a way of interfering in Vince’s best-laid plans. His forced attendance to his annoyingly perfect cousin’s baby shower was no different. He was sure to be bored out of his skull, but instead, he met sweet little Rosie Zendejas.
What begins as a unlikely friendship between two very different teens turns into one of the most intense and passionate relationships that neither ever saw coming. But just like it had so many times in Vince’s troubled past, Fate steps in once again, threatening to take away the one thing he can’t seem to even breathe without now–Rose.
