Is not the very meaning of love that it surpasses every objection against it?
Jilted. Never did Mr. Darcy imagine it could happen to him.
But it has, and by Elizabeth Bennet, the woman who first hated and rejected him but then came to love him—he believed—and agree to be his wife. Alas, it is a short-lived, ill-fated romance that ends nearly as soon as it has begun. No reason is given.
More than a year since he last saw her—a year of anger, confusion, and despair—he receives an invitation from the Bingleys to a house party at Netherfield. Darcy is first tempted to refuse, but with the understanding that Elizabeth will not attend, he decides to accept.
When a letter arrives, confirming Elizabeth’s intention to join them, Darcy resolves to meet her with indifference. He is determined that he will not demand answers to the questions that plague him. Elizabeth is also resolved to remain silent and hold fast to the secret behind her refusal. Once they are together, however, it proves difficult to deny the intense passion that still exists. Fury, grief, and profound love prove to be a combustible mixture. But will the secrets between them be their undoing?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I love Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite and Persuasion is a very close second. There is nothing I enjoy more that a good, engaging JAFF! I really enjoyed A Short Period of Exquisite Felicity, from the first page with a fumbling Fitzwilliam I was hooked. I loved the premise, I loved the angst, I loved the mystery surrounding the broken engagement, the twist and turns are nothing of what I expected and the journey back to each other was so gratifying! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that is all I have for this book! The characters were so true to the canon and the tension between Darcy and Elizabeth was exquisite! I love Mr. Darcy and how much he loves Elizabeth, his fight for her was my favorite part of this story. This mash-up satisfies on so many levels. A heartbreaking, heart wrenching, heart warming journey proving that when two hearts belong together, nothing will keep them apart. Thank you to Claudine for including me in this fabulous tour!!

Another vote for this book. I’m psyching myself up to cope with the angst. Mind you I resisted TBPoL for ages for the same reason but then I absolutely loved it tears and all. So I assume the same will happen here. Thanks for sharing Margie.
I have visited several of the blogs but was only able to enter the rafflecopter on the first one as there was no space for a blog name and on each of the others that option was showing as already done. However no worries as we can’t accept gift books here in the UK without a lot of technological stuff and that is beyond me.
I really love angst. I live for it!!! I know you will love it too!!!
I am so sorry about all that technical stuff…why can’t all the tech stuff of the world just get along!!!! Thank you for stopping by!!
Thanks Glynis!
Thanks for your thoughts on the book. It sounds really good and am glad you mentioned that Darcy fights for her and that the characters are in canon.
He fights in his own way as in not giving up on her, he has his moments of doubt sometimes but he just can’t let it go and I love that. He is very Darcy like. I love him. 🙂
Thanks so much DarcyBennett!
Persuasion often runs P&P a very close second for me too Margie, so this one sounds right up my street. Couple that with a decent amount of what I called the A-word earlier in the tour and I’ll be in Austenesque heaven! As long as I have tissues, wine and chocolate to hand whilst reading, then hopefully I’ll be following you on that “heartbreaking, heart wrenching, heart warming journey”.
Me too Anji! Thank you 😃
I’ve heard many Austenesque readers raving about this book. I would love for the chance to read it as P&P and Persuasion are my two favourite novels. And the cover is enticing me to put it right on top of my tbr list. Thank you for sharing your lovely review with us, Margie.
Many thanks Luthien!
Really looking forward to reading this book! 😉
💕thank you Daniela!
Always prefer to have some sort of mystery with JAFF stories
I love a good twist! Thanks Vesper!
This is one of my all-time favorite JAFFs. The plot is unique, the ending is a true surprise, and the characters are true to canon and superbly drawn.
Looks intriguing …
Thanks Margie for your thoughts, I’m sure it’s a heartbreaking and heartwarming story. Amy is so good at writing D&E.
Thanks so much Kate!
