Duel McClain buries his wife and infant son, climbs in the saddle, and rides off. Locked in grief, he drifts from one Texas town to another as the months pass. He rides into a border town and gets in a card game in the saloon. On the last hand, the opponent across from him runs out of money. The man reaches down for a baby and plunks her in the center of the table. Whoever wins the pot, gets her too. After Duel wins with the Deadman’s Hand, he tries to give the baby back. But when the man tells him he’ll sell her, Duel keeps his prize.
On the way back to his home, he runs across a woman covered in blood. She only says her name is Jessie and the blood isn’t hers. The deep fear in her eyes touches Duel and he has to do something. He strikes a bargain—he’ll take her anywhere she wants to go in return for helping with the child.

Jessie sees honor, respect, and kindness in his eyes. And the moment she holds the baby in her arms, her heart melts. Once they reach Duel’s home, she confesses she killed her husband and tells him the law will come. Desperate to save her, he offers marriage and she accepts.

They settle in and love develops. But each day grows more tense. Lawmen are coming and they can’t stop them. Soon, she’ll face the hangman’s rope.

The more and more I read Linda Brody books, the more and more I want! I LOVED Knight on Texas Plains! First off how hard it is NOT to be drawn to that cover? It looks so romantic! Throw that in with the words Knight and Texas and you got yourself a winner! Duel is dreamy, plain and simple and his determination to keep Jesse and the baby safe is heartwarming. Through the trials and tears, I fell head over heals for the hero and the heroine and the beautiful love story in this book!

I can’t wait to read the other books in this series! Linda Brody is now a must read author for me! I see her name and her amazing covers and I need to grab that book!

Praise for Knight on the Texas Plains:
“Broday (the Men of Legend series) has a knack for capturing the hesitations of both Duel and Jessie and unfurling a twisting plot without resorting to melodrama. Through carefully deployed flashbacks, she slowly exposes the horrors of Jessie’s marriage, culminating in a truly grisly image of depravity without overwhelming the tender love story. Fans of historical romances will be pleased.”  ~~ Publisher’s Weekly
“The instant a sweet baby girl, an abused woman, a stray dog, and a reluctant hero meet, readers are drawn into a tender and tough love story that touches many emotions and will have them believing in the healing power of love.”  ~~ Romantic Times 4 ½ Stars Top Pick!
“Broday’s latest is a tender romance to touch the heart.”
~~ Bookpage
“This story is simply endearing, packed with powerful message of humanity and the true healing power of family and love!!” ~~ Addicted to Romance
Throughout the well-paced story, there was suspense, tears, fear, revulsion, and no shortage of laughter and joy. I didn’t want the story to end.” ~~ Teresa on Goodreads

Linda Broday, Historical Western Romance Author  I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 8 full length historical western romance novels, with another set to release 2017, and 10 short stories. Watching TV westerns during my youth fed my love of cowboys and the old West and they still do. I reside in the Texas Panhandle on land the American Indian and Comancheros once roamed. At times, I can feel their ghosts lurking around every corner. Texas’ rich history is one reason I set all my stories here. I love research and looking for little known tidbits to add realism to my stories. When I’m not writing, I collect old coins and I confess to being a rock hound. I’ve been accused (and quite unfairly I might add) of making a nuisance of myself at museums, libraries, and historical places. I’m also a movie buff and love sitting in a dark theater, watching the magic on the screen. As long as I’m confessing…chocolate is my best friend. It just soothes my soul.

  1. Tonya Lucas says:

I’ve read many westerns during my time, many that have remained embedded into my very soul. But one truly stands out above the rest. Linda Broday’s Knights On The Texas Plains.
Duel, Jessie, and Marley Rose have weaved themselves into my very heart and soul. This is my second time to read about such an amazing trio who lived and loved beyond any measure one could possibly understand, unless you experience their journey, firsthand.
Marley Rose will capture your heart and soul.
Duel and Jessie will strengthen your belief, that love does conquer all, even when the chips fall where they may.
Linda Broday is an exceptional and gifted author that truly can delve into such powerful subjects that very few authors will chance. Her ability to write straight from her heart and deliver powerful stories makes her the premier author she is today.

    • Hi Tonya…..Thank you so much for taking time from your busy day to come over. I’m deeply blessed by your kind words. I remember when you had me autograph that first issue. It seems so long ago now. I’m thankful to God each day that he made our paths cross. I hope I never let you down with a story. When I write, I see your face and know that you’re waiting to read it. I don’t think Duel, Jessie, and Marley Rose will ever leave your heart. They’re embedded. Much love and hugs!

  2. A friend told me about Linda’s books I got my first one and was hooked. Kight on the Texas Plaines is about three lost souls who come together and become one. Duel, Jessie and Marley Rose. Family. You will love this book. I call it a must read.

    • Hi Yvonne……Bless you for coming over. I’m so glad you loved this book. They are indeed three broken people but they make an awesome patchwork family. Now, get ready for Book #2 The Cowboy Who Came Calling in February! This is Duel’s brother Luke’s story and it’s quite an adventure.

  3. Margie…..Thank you so much for letting me take a rest stop here. And that review made my heart sing! I’m truly blessed and happy to read your kind words. When I first wrote this book, I named it Aces ‘n Eights. But I knew that wasn’t catchy enough so I changed it and I’m glad I did. This title was what drew a Dorchester Publishing editor’s attention. But I felt in my bones it was perfect. Duel is a knight in every sense of the word. He could’ve left Marley Rose to her own fate. He could’ve turned a blind eye to Jessie. Only his heart wouldn’t let him.

To answer your question….yes is there is more to come in the Texas Heroes series. Book #2 – The Cowboy Who Comes Calling – will re-release in February with a brand new cover. This is Luke McClain’s story and he has quite an adventure. This book won the National Reader’s Choice award in 2003.

Then Book #3 – Marley Rose’s story when she’s grown – will be out in July I think is the month. I’m calling it Catch a Texas Star. I don’t know if I’ll get to keep it but I hope so. This story takes place when Marley Rose is grown and looking for love. By accident, she learns the secret Duel has kept from her all these years and she’s shattered.

So yes, there is much more to come. Thank you again for letting Duel, Jessie, and Marley Rose find a place in your heart.

  4. Tonya Lucas says:

Linda- I am truly blessed and the lucky one to have you. Yes I remember my copy was tethered & torn and you sent me a beautiful new copy. That is still how I picture Duel. I’m so glad I have both book covers. This is probably my favorite book ever. The message incorporated within the pages are forever bonded in my heart & soul. But then I Pickup another one of your books & it becomes my favorite. You’re amazing. Love you so much my sweet sister friend.

    • Miss Tonya, it’s always been said that your best book was your last. I don’t know if that’s true. I just keep trying to make each one better than the one before. It terrifies me that maybe one day I’ll fair to deliver. Thank you for taking this amazing journey with me. We’re sisters of the heart and always will be.

  5. Veda Funk says:

I loved this book, and love reading Linda Broday. I was found one of her books in the store, I hadn’t ever read her, and mentioned it to my friend Tonya Lucas, and was told you need to read the first two books, let me send them to you, and every since I have gotten to know Linda Broday as a wonderful dear, loving person. And glad to consider her my friend.
This book is about three people, all broken in some way. You have a baby that lives unconditionly, a man that is not willing to accept that love, it just brings pain in his eyes. And then you have Jessie, that has so many secrets. Time, and true love does fill the heart and heal up all those broken parts. And I can’t wait to read what is coming next year.
With each new book, I fall more in love, and admire the writing of awesome author.

    • Hi Veda, I’ve tried three times to post a reply but maybe this one will be a charm. I’m so very happy that our paths crossed and we connected. I owe Tonya Lucas more than I can ever repay. She’s a godsend. I think you’ll like what’s coming next. Thank you so much for liking my books and for being a friend. I can always use a good friend. Love you, lady!
