This books starts off with some major action. Our hero comes home from his tour in Afghanistan with a chip on his shoulder and major survivors guilt. His guilt is all consuming that he will not allow himself the comfort of an old friend.

Annie was great. Being a single mom, she knows what is means to be humble and strong. She is feisty and knows her worth. Yet, she is kind and her patience and understanding help Jake come back to life.

Their shared past and trying present help these two find an understanding for a hopeful future.
